2004 Recipient: Richard McNicol

Richard McNicol, Animateur of the London Symphony Orchestra was presented with Honorary Membership of the RPS by Evelyn Glennie at the RPS Music Awards Dinner in London on 5 May 2004.

In making this award, the Council of the RPS concurred:

Richard McNicol has helped redefine the way in which music is understood and enjoyed. He recognises that music is best learnt at all ages and levels by working creatively with a broad range of music materials and has pioneered an extraordinary, highly creative approach to music, which gets pupils deeply involved in myriad musical experiences.


Kathryn McDowell, Director, LSO: The RPS has been a meeting point for musicians, composers and audiences for 200 years and remains a passionate advocate for music today.


The Schaller Bust of Beethoven, donated in 1871, has stood on the platform of every RPS concert since then as a symbol of excellence and support for the living composer.
