2004 Recipient: Richard McNicol

Richard McNicol, Animateur of the London Symphony Orchestra was presented with Honorary Membership of the RPS by Evelyn Glennie at the RPS Music Awards Dinner in London on 5 May 2004.

In making this award, the Council of the RPS concurred:

Richard McNicol has helped redefine the way in which music is understood and enjoyed. He recognises that music is best learnt at all ages and levels by working creatively with a broad range of music materials and has pioneered an extraordinary, highly creative approach to music, which gets pupils deeply involved in myriad musical experiences.

An early Philharmonic superstar was the virtuoso double bassist Domenico Dragonetti. He brought his dog Carlo to performances, and commanded higher fees than almost any other player.
