Born into a musical family in South-West London, Jocelyn grew up encouraged to pursue music in whichever forms he found stimulating. His formative musical training began at an early age on the double bass, but he quickly became interested in pop, alternative and electronic music throughout secondary school, first playing in bands before developing an interest in music production. These multifarious disciplines have stayed with him to this day.

Jocelyn began studying composition at Middlesex University under Brian Inglis and Francois Evans. During this time he also became interested in composing music for film as well as for the concert hall.

Jocelyn’s subsequent postgraduate degrees were completed at King’s College London. He studied with Silvina Milstein for his MMus and then with Sir George Benjamin for his PhD which was awarded to him in June 2019.

In 2018, Jocelyn collaborated with director Bella Riza, conductor Toby Thatcher, recording artist Jimi Maffei and Ensemble Eroica to produce an interdisciplinary work of music-on-film entitled ePod nano. The project was funded by Arts Council England and was premiered at the Leyden Gallery in London. The project is currently being hosted online by Zeitgeist.

Composing for the concert hall, Jocelyn has worked with such ensembles as the Royal Northern Sinfonia, London Contemporary Orchestra, The Lontano Ensemble, Ensemble x.y, Ensemble Eroica and Newe Vialles among others. His works have been performed at venues such as Sage Gateshead, St. Jude’s-on-the-Hill, Shoreditch Church, St. James Piccadilly and St. Mary’s-at-Hill.

In film, Jocelyn has recently worked with Julien Temple on the original score for his feature-length documentary Ibiza: The Silent Movie. Jocelyn has also scored short films directed by Bertie Gilbert and Theo Nunn.

Jocelyn also writes and performs solo music under the pseudonym phonewifey. In March 2019 he released his debut full-length album happy new year. As phonewifey he has played live shows and DJ’d at numerous venues around London including: Village Underground, The Pickle Factory, Rye Wax, The Old Blue Last and Five Miles among others.
