About Amy
'My music seems to be developing as a reflection of the people I meet and the conversations I have. My output is constantly evolving as these things around me change and develop, but there is always a common thread of interactivity, social commentary, and playfulness. In my childhood, this often meant me bombarding the ensembles I was a member of with experimental responses to the music and influences we encountered. More recently, it has meant looking closely at the role contemporary music can have within the community, often working on devised pieces and within education settings.
I’m fascinated by the way we interact with scores, and a lot of my work challenges the traditional hierarchies between composer, performer, score, and audience. My manuscripts are often handwritten, semi-graphic, or vary in shape, size, and interactive capabilities. The largest score I’ve made has been five metres long, but there are also some 16-sided shapes and 3-dimensional objects.
I would describe my approach to music-making as inherently queer, and my sonic influences vary hugely given what I feel is necessary in the moment. My writing is driven by drama, narrative, and audience experience. I like to be unexpected, but not always.'
