Awarded: grant towards study abroad
Fiona Kelly is 22 years old and has just completed her undergraduate studies at Trinity College of Music, London with Anna Noakes. She began her studies at the Cork School of Music with Evelyn Grant and Sabine Ducrot.
Fiona has won numerous awards including 1st Prize in the British Flute Society Silver Jubilee International Competition, the Royal Overseas League Sussex Prize and 1st Prize in the Trinity College of Music Soloist’s Competition. She has played concertos with TCM Symphony Orchestra at St. John’s Smith Square and Blackheath Halls and with The Locrian Ensemble at St Martin in the Fields.
A keen chamber musician Fiona’s quintet, the Kelly Wind Quintet have performed regularly at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, including a performance with the Haffner Wind Ensemble of London. They have also been involved in education projects throughout Cork city and county. Fiona has been invited to perform for the Irish President Mary McAleese and at Europe Day (live broadcast on Irish national radio station Lyric FM).
Fiona was recently offered the post of Principal Flute with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra but she has decided to opt for further study and is very excited to be taking her place on the Master’s course at The Juilliard School, New York, from September. She is very grateful to the Royal Philharmonic Society on receiving the Julius Isserlis Scholarship, which will be extremely helpful towards funding her studies in New York.
