RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2019 | £500 towards an Alto Saxophone

Laura Harrison is a second-year BMus student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London studying classical saxophone with Christian Forshaw and second study on flute with Alena Walentin.

Laura began to play the saxophone at an early age. At primary school she was awarded a place at Leeds College of Music Junior Academy. Relocating to The Cotswolds, Laura joined the Oxfordshire Youth Big Band - where she was lead saxophonist - the County Flute Choir, and the highly-acclaimed County Youth Orchestra.

Laura has performed at many prestigious venues including the Barbican, the Royal Albert Hall, the Sheldonian Theatre, Dorchester Abbey and Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

In 2018 Laura performed two solo recitals in Cheltenham Town Hall for the Cheltenham Music Festival. For the past two years, Laura has attended a summer school with the Chipping Campden Music Festival Academy Orchestra where she played with Nicola Benedetti in the final concert. Another highlight of Laura’s career was an invitation to perform with the Military Wives Choir and Band of the Scots Guards in a charity gala concert in Salisbury.

Laura’s emerging talent has been spotted by many locals and she has been invited to perform at numerous events including solo recitals in Bob Chilcott’s ‘The Voyage’, as a guest musician with Circus Tisura and as a member of a jazz quartet at many weddings and social gatherings.
