Ross Montgomery

RPS Julius Isserlis Scholar 2019

Ross Montgomery is a Scottish clarinettist based in London. He has a wealth of orchestral, solo and chamber music experience across the UK and Europe. On completing his Master’s at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he moved to London to join Southbank Sinfonia in 2017 as Co-Principal Clarinet.

In recent years, Ross has been touring the UK, Umbria and Tuscany performing Mozart Clarinet Concerto with Raucous Rossini, as well as in 2018 performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Winds around Italy and Scotland. He also appeared as clarinettist with new opera company Puccini’s Toaster in Berlin. He is Principal Clarinet with Raucous Rossini and also the New Generation Festival, in Florence. He appeared as Concerto soloist with Southbank Sinfonia, performing Weber’s Clarinet Concertino with Southbank Sinfonia in London and at the Anghiari Festival, in Tuscany.

In 2018, Ross completed all of Rossini’s one act operas, some of which were UK premieres. As a chamber musician, Ross was a member of Athenaeum Winds who were appointed Residency Artists with Enterprise Music Scotland and were in great demand giving regular concerts and workshops around the UK. Recently, he has performed Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet with the Allegri String Quartet in concerts in Honor Oak Park and the One Tree Hill concert series in Richmond.

This year, Ross will complete an Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music studying with Timothy Lines, Richard Hosford and Janet Hilton. He freelances regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Concert Orchestra and is an extra with Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He is currently on trial for sub-principal clarinet with BBC Symphony Orchestra.
