RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2020 | £750 towards a Bb clarinet

Jasmine Smith is a first year BMus student, based in Norwich and London, studying classical saxophone at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Jasmine has been playing the alto saxophone since the age of 9 and passed her grade 8 exam with distinction under Elsabe Ray. She then commenced lessons with David Fitzgerald and enjoyed exploring contemporary, classical and jazz styles. She played lead saxophone in the Norfolk Symphonic Wind Band, performing at the Royal Symphony Hall in Birmingham and the Royal Albert Hall in the 2017 ‘Music for Youth Proms’. She was also a member of the Guildhall Norfolk Centre for Young Musicians where she studied composition and played in a saxophone quartet and a jazz band. She has performed in the Norwich School’s ‘Making Musicians’ Concert at the Norwich Cathedral, performed a solo recital at the Belfry Centre for Music and Arts and was awarded 3rd prize in the 2019 Norfolk Young Musician Competition.

Jasmine is currently studying classical saxophone under Christian Forshaw, jazz under Michael Foster and doubling under Nick Moss. She also plays soprano saxophone, flute, clarinet and piano.
