Jessica Gill

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2021 | £750 towards a flute

Jessica Gill studies flute and piccolo at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under Jonathan Rimmer and Andrew Lane.

Jess grew up playing in the Hampshire Music Service ensembles from the age of 9 and progressed to become Principal flute in both Hampshire County Youth Orchestra and HCYChamber Orchestra. At the age of 12 Jess joined the NCO in their South-Easterlies orchestra where she held her seat for 2 years. After gaining her ARSM with distinction in 2017 she became a member of the National Youth Wind Ensemble (piccolo) with whom she played for 2 seasons, during this time she studied under Kate Hill and Christine Hankin. Jess continued her studies on the acclaimed Hampshire Specialist Music Course before accepting her place at RBC.

Across the years Jess has taken part in numerous competitions with regular success, including progressing through 3 out of 4 rounds of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year competition before the final rounds were cancelled due to coronavirus. Jess has performed as a soloist at various large venues including The Anvil and Haymarket Theatres and performed her first solo recital in 2018. Jess was also a member of the National Youth Harp Orchestra from 2015-2017 studying under Louisa Cordell.
