RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2020 | £800 towards a French Horn

Matthew Smith began learning the French Horn in Primary School with David Wheeler. When he turned 16, he moved to Borneo, learning with his father and former professional horn player, Nicholas Smith. During his time in Borneo, he performed for Bruneian Royalty and multiple other embassy representatives, celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Birthday. Since moving back to the UK, he has performed Verdi's Requiem Mass with the National Schools Symphony Orchestra and also gained a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. Matthew now studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Neil Shewan, French Horn player of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
