Rianna Henriques

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2020 | £1,100 towards a flute

Rianna Henriques is a flautist and saxophonist, currently studying at the Royal College of Music for a Bachelor of Music degree, as a Soirée d’Or scholar. Kyle Horch tutors Rianna on the saxophone, whilst Gitte Marcusson is her mentor for the flute. Rianna was previously awarded a WJ Smith Music Scholarship at Alleyn’s School from 2012 to 2019. Other prizes include first place in the advanced category of the Alleyn’s Woodwind Prize, winning five categories of the Beckenham Music Festival in 2014 and being appointed as one of eight musicians on the ‘London Philharmonic Orchestra Junior Artists’ Scheme’ in 2018.

In November 2018, Rianna performed in her own coffee morning recital in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall. Rianna has been the Principal Flautist of various orchestras, including the Chineke! Junior Orchestra, the Royal College of Music Junior Department Symphony Orchestra, the South London Youth Orchestra and the National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain. In May 2019, Rianna was the soloist in François Borne’s flute concerto, Fantaisie Brillante (on themes from Bizet’s Carmen), performed at St John’s Smith Square. At the 606 Club, Rianna performed a solo alto saxophone Jazz feature, King Porter Stomp, arranged by Gil Evans.
