RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2019 | £2,000 towards a French Horn
Alexander Boukikov is currently an undergraduate student at the Royal College of Music studying French Horn with Jeffrey Bryant and Natural Horn with Roger Montgomery. Whilst at the College, Alexander has performed with the RCM Symphony, Philharmonic and Opera orchestras and under the baton of Martyn Brabbins, Jac van Steen, Thomas Zehetmair and Vladimir Jurowski.
Born in Leicester, Alexander began studying the French Horn under Ben George before joining the Junior Royal Academy of Music to study with Simon de Souza. Alexander studied for 3 years at the Junior Academy, where he was a finalist in both the Junior and Senior Brass Prizes and performed numerous times as principal Horn, notably during performances of Mahler’s Totenfeier and chamber arrangements of his 4th and 5th Symphonies. Alexander subsequently studied with Mike Kidd and Jeremy Bushell (both of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) before joining the RCM.
Alexander has performed with many ensembles around the UK including the CBSO Youth Orchestra, Amadeus Orchestra, Orion Orchestra and the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra. With the LSSO he made two appearances as principal Horn at the Music for Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall and toured Europe 6 times. This summer he is a scholar on the British Isles Music Festival where he will be performing Brahms’ Horn Trio and Franz Strauss’ Theme and Variations for Horn and Piano amongst other chamber works.
Also an accomplished Choral musician, Alexander was Conducting Scholar at St James the Greater, Leicester and has conducted in masterclasses lead by Helen Smee and Amy Bebbington. Alexander is the 2019-20 Bass scholar at St Mary-the-Boltons, Chelsea.
