Bartione Saxophone

John Craig is an award winning saxophonist from Glasgow who is currently a first year saxophonist at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland studying under Josef Pacewicz and with the international saxophone virtuoso Arno Bornkamp. He has previously studied under Northern Irish international saxophone artist Gerard McChrystal. During his studies John has taken part in masterclasses with many renowned artists including Amy Dickson, Kyle Horch, Naomi Sullivan and Rob Buckland.

In 2017, after several rounds of auditions John was awarded runner up in the Westbourne Orchestral Society’s youth concerto competition.

John has a keen interest to explore new repertoire for the classical saxophone and has been working with composers to commission new contemporary music and in 2017 will be premiering pieces by current students at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

John also enjoys chamber music, working with other students to form saxophone trios, quartets, quintets and harp and saxophone duos alongside other larger mixed ensembles.

Before beginning studies at The RCS, John successfully auditioned to take part in Scottish Opera Connect orchestra and was able to gain valuable experience with professional mentors as well as perform in two operas.

John has performed alongside the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland as Principal Saxophone for their summer concert tour in 2017.

John has received scholarships to study from The Royal Philharmonic Society, The Dewar Arts Award and Music for All whom he would like to thank for their generous contributions to his musical development.
