Fresca David

2018 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant | Clarinet

I started playing the clarinet at the age of nine when a clarinettist gave a performance at my primary school. I knew instantly that I wanted to play it. Very soon I joined county orchestras and was advised audition for a specialist music school.

At the age of twelve I was awarded a place at Chetham’s School of Music. There I was part of several chamber groups as well as the school orchestra. I attended external music courses such as ‘Curtis Summer Fest’ in Philadelphia, and a musical exchange program to Australia. My love for orchestral playing led me to apply for the National Youth Orchestra and I was delighted to be accepted. During my time in NYO I was given the opportunity to play fabulous repertoire including Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony and Stravinsky’s ‘Rite of Spring’, which we performed at the BBC Proms.

Currently I am at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the BMus course, studying with the incredible clarinettist Andrew Marriner.
