Hannah Parry

2017 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant recipient


Hannah Parry is in her first undergraduate year as an RCM Foundation Scholar and Stanley Picker Scholar at the Royal College of Music, supported by Mrs Lorraine Dittrich and Mr Rhoddy Voremberg. She studies principal study recorder with Ashley Solomon, Maria Martinez Ayerza and Julien Feltrin and second study violin with Gabrielle Lester. She has also received training from Annabel Knight, on courses for gifted and talented recorder players with Tom Beets, and has taken part in masterclasses with Walter van Hauwe, Paul Leenhouts, Trevor Pinnock, Ross Winters, and members of the Royal Wind Music with a quartet. She previously studied at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department under the tuition of Barbara Law and Sophie Lockett. She has been a member of various ensembles, with which she has performed at the European Recorder Teachers’ Association conference in Cologne, at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra, at the Adrian Bolt Hall and Town Hall in Birmingham, and she has led a quintet at the Royal Albert Hall in the Schools’ Proms as part of the Music For Youth Festival.
At the RCM she plays in quartets and trios, and will be attending the Open Recorder Days Festival in Amsterdam with the Petrucci quartet. She also looks forward to a performance of Montiverdi’s Vespers in Seillans, France.
She was a finalist in the Canterbury Festival Competition and won the Marlowe Young Musician of the year in 2010. Other recent performances include a lunchtime recital for the Deal Festival and the Marlowe Theatre Friends meeting. As a violinist Hannah has played as a member of a quartet, accompanied by the European Union Chamber Orchestra and played a concerto as a finalist in the Marlowe Young Musician of the Year. She has also recorded a solo part for a CD with the Kent Police Male Voice Choir, and worked in Stratford, East London, with street dancers, arranging Bach’s Double Violin Concerto into suitable hiphop music. In July 2016 she took part in the Musique Cordiale Academie in Seillans, receiving tuition from Levon Chilingirian and Susie Mezaros.
