Phillip began studying the bassoon in secondary school with Hilary Bache (2012) and Melanie Cross (2013-2016), After playing the bassoon for only three years, he was offered a place and a scholarship at the Royal Academy of Music to study under John Orford and Fraser Gordon. He also studies flute with Kate Hill as a second study.
Phillip has been involved in various orchestral projects as both a bassoonist and contrabassoonist, including concerts with the Fulham Camerata playing Mozart’s Requiem, the Wrexham Symphony Orchestra playing Brahms’ 3rd Symphony and, most recently, the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra playing Mahler’s 2nd Symphony at Royal Festival Hall. He currently holds the position of Principal bassoon with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales, and the North Wales Youth Orchestra. He has also played in masterclasses alongside Marco Lugaresi (Camerata Salzburg), Laurence Perkins (Manchester Camerata), and Julie Price (BBC Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra).
