The Gesualdo Six - Trailblazers

The vocal consort immediately got creative in lockdown exploring the screen as a performance space offering its own possibilities, leading to six striking collaborations with other artists that they called the ‘London Sound Gallery’. Now they’re planning to evolve the model and take it on the road.

The group’s Director Owain Park says:

'We are delighted to have received support from the RPS Enterprise Fund in association with Harriet’s Trust. As Trailblazers, we plan to build on the success of our first festival London Sound Gallery (delivered online and in-person) by expanding the concept to other cultural centres, starting in Manchester this year. Collaborating with other musicians has been a key part of our response to the pandemic, so we aim to film collaborative performances with local musicians in specially-chosen venues, producing the series using our own equipment under the banner ‘G6 Studio’. We are keen to evolve our presentation of concerts and plan to commission local visual artists to reflect on each festival’s theme and produce visual art to accompany the series. We also hope to commission local composers to write special collaborative works to be premiered at these concerts. We aim to organise school workshops and open rehearsals, furthering our ambitions to be active mentors and support local choirs with chorister recruitment. With this funding opportunity, we hope to be able to replicate this model around the UK, sustaining not only ourselves economically but also supporting the artists involved in each series.'
