Josephine Korda

About Josephine

I am currently Conductor in Residence at the Académie de l’Opéra de Paris and this summer I make my debut with Opera Holland Park as their Young Artist on Jonathan Dove’s Itch.

In 2024 I was Conducting Fellow at the prestigious Lucerne Festival Contemporary Academy. Last year I was Cover Conductor to Northern Ballet, making my debut with them on their award winning production of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, whilst previously having worked as the Trainee Female Conductor at Opera North (2022-23) and Assistant Conductor at the Opera de Massy, Paris (2020-21).

I participated in the 57th and 58th editions of the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, reaching the semi-finals in 2023, and have been selected to participate in masterclasses, including with Marin Alsop,  David Reiland, Daniele Gatti, and Martyn Brabbins.

I hold an MMus with Distinction in Orchestral Conducting from the Royal Northern College of Music, where I was awarded the Mortimer-Furber Prize in Conducting. Previously I graduated with Perfectionnement in Conducting and Composition from the École Normale de Musique de Paris under Dominique Rouits, Julien Masmondet and Regis Campo, and in 2022 I gained the Advanced Certificate in Contemporary Repertoire from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana where I studied with Arturo Tamayo. I hold a BAHons in Music from the University of Oxford where I was a choral and instrumental scholar. Proactively I have created my own opportunities, founding the Paris Sinfonia with whom I conduct concerts featuring contemporary music, and the Occasional Orchestra in Oxford commissioning ballet and performance art.
