About Oi Ching

My journey as a conductor began with a love for music, and it has been an incredible adventure to date. I started off as a cellist. I remember vividly when I was at rehearsals; I always paid attention to everything happening around me. I was fully amazed by the colours and sounds that all instruments made in an orchestra. I didn't think about being a conductor until I made my conducting debut at the age of 17 with my school orchestra consisting of 100 players. It was an eye-opening experience for me. The power and energy of music in my hands were so different from playing with my cello. This experience ignited my interest in conducting, a passion that has never wavered.

Before coming to the UK for my Master's degree, I was an orchestra librarian, a youth orchestra conductor, and even something completely irrelevant to music for years. These diverse experiences deepened my understanding of the conductor's multifaceted responsibilities, both on and off the podium. Throughout this journey, I've met remarkable individuals who have continuously inspired me to strive for excellence, not only as a conductor but also as a human being. I find immense joy in using music as a means to connect people and create memorable experiences. I look forward to the possibilities that lie ahead!
