Peggy Wu
My journey as a conductor began during my time as a pianist at the Royal College of Music. A friend asked me to lead an amateur orchestra rehearsal in London, despite my lack of conducting experience. I vividly recall the exhilaration of standing in front of the orchestra and forging connections with the musicians, and this experience ignited my passion for conducting.
I continued as the principal conductor of the St. Bartholomew’s Chamber Orchestra from 2019 to 2022. A highlight of my tenure was leading the orchestra in a semi-staged production of Cosí Fan Tutte, where I served as both conductor and producer. This marked the orchestra's first venture into opera, and we successfully crowdfunded the production's costs.
My passion for opera led me to assist Sian Edwards on the world premiere of Lliam Patterson's Catriona and the Dragon, commissioned by the Lammermuir Festival. I also assisted on the British Youth Opera production of Vaughan-Williams’ Pilgrim's Progress and the RCS Opera double-bill production of Menotti's The Medium and Jake Heggie's Three Decembers. Additionally, I worked with Ensemble ZAR and Kanako Abe on Bushra El-Turk's opera Woman At Point Zero, facilitated by Britten Pears Arts and the Royal Opera House.
Currently, I am pursuing a Master's in Conducting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the guidance of Martyn Brabbins. With the support of the RCS, I worked with prominent orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. I also had the privilege of working with the London Sinfonietta, Berlin Sinfonietta, and Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.
