I started conducting in the Bachelor of Orchestral Conducting in Lisbon (2013) and what amazed me about it were the infinite possibilities of interpretation and understanding of orchestral music. As I developed I noticed that my love for music had more to do with the empathy and vulnerability of getting an orchestra together to achieve a cohesive vision, creating music that is vibrant and alive. Growing up in Portugal I also felt that it was important to create new ways to reach diverse audiences. That is why during my time studying in the MMus of orchestral conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, I’ve produced shows that attempt to connect with everyone, and not only the customary concert hall audiences.
In 2021 I had the opportunity to conduct the Southbank Sinfonia and the Welsh National Opera orchestra. I assisted Ryan Bancroft with BBC NOW, Enrico Pagano with Opera Joven and I will also be assisting WNO’s opera Cheryomuhski this year with Alice Farnham. I am also part of the Young Women Opera Makers residency of the Festival Aix-en-Provence led by Katie Mitchell, and a fellow of the Georgia Symphony Orchestra programme in Atlanta until July 2022.
