Tess Jackson

About Tess

I’m currently studying Orchestral Conducting under Sian Edwards at the Royal Academy of Music. My musical journey started as a violinist and pianist, but I first picked up a baton at school and quickly realised that that is where my passion lies. I love the collaborative and creative side of the role.

During my undergraduate degree at Cambridge University, I was Principal Conductor of the Cambridge University Sinfonia and the Cambridge Graduate Orchestra. As Conducting Scholar for the Cambridge University Musical Society, I also got the chance to assist conductors such as Jac van Steen and Andrew Gourlay.

While at university, I was Assistant Music Director for the Cambridge University Opera Society’s 2018 production of Rossini’s Il signor Bruschino, and was part of the team that adapted the production for a run of performances at the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2019. As part of my interest in bringing opera to new audiences, I was also Musical Director for CUOS’s production of Donnacha Dennehy’s The Last Hotel, a contemporary multimedia opera, which was the first opera by a living professional composer to be put on by the Cambridge University Opera Society in 45 years.
