Eliza Carew

CELLO BOW

Eliza Carew is a 19 year old cellist from the Wirral. After beginning the cello at age 11, Eliza began studying at the Junior RNCM with tutor Chris Hoyle. She subsequently won a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, of which she was made principal cellist in 2015. After winning the annual Junior RNCM concerto competition, Eliza performed Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the Junior RNCM Symphony Orchestra, and was awarded the prize for Outstanding Contribution to the Junior School.

Eliza is now in her first year of undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, learning with tutors Chris Hoyle, Hannah Roberts and Leonard Elschenbroich. In her first term she won the RNCM’s Sir John Barbirolli Cello Prize, and was recently awarded the 2016 Raphael Sommer Scholarship. Eliza plays in the Mathias String Quartet, based at the RNCM, which has recently been selected to represent the college in the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition and the Leicester International Quartet Series.
