2018 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant | Violin bow
Ken is going into his first year at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His pre-tertiary education included the City of Edinburgh Music School, St Mary’s Music School and the Junior Conservatoire at RCS. He has been learning with Andrea Gajic since the age of 8.
Ken was a member of four Orchestras in 2017/18. He led St Mary’s big band concert, was co-leader of RCS’s Junior Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra and led RCS’s Junior String Ensemble. His solo concerto performance with the String Ensemble and separately with a community orchestra were equally applauded. Ken has been successful in a number of competitions and has been chosen to participate in public masterclasses with Nicola Benedetti, Renaud Cupucon, Vesna Stankovic to name but a few.
In addition to the violin as his main instrument, Ken also plays Viola, Jazz Drum Kit and composes electronic music.
in 2018/19 Ken is participating in Music in the Round’s Bridge scheme for nurturing young string players, which focuses on creating opportunities for BME musicians.

In October 1970, Lutoslawski's Cello Concerto received its world premiere, having been commissioned by the RPS. The soloist was Rostropovich, who received our highest honour, the Gold Medal, the same year.
