Tom Bennett

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2019 | £900 towards Percussion Instruments & Cases

Tom is currently a 2nd year BMus scholarship student studying Orchestral Percussion at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. His main teachers include Chris Bradley, Matt Hardy and Dave Elliot with masterclasses from Adrian Bending and Alasdair Malloy.

He has played with RBC’s’ Symphony Orchestra, The City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra and many other youth orchestras playing in prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and St John’s Smith Square.

His playing incorporates a wide range of styles and genres, from orchestral playing, musical theatre, operas, through to jazz and many more. Tom previously attended The Royal Academy of Music Junior department where he studied with Markus Gruett and Giles Harrison.

He is grateful for the generous support from the Royal Philharmonic Society which will enable him to purchase percussion instruments to further his studies.

Andrew Keener, independent recording producer: The world would be poorer without live musicmaking. More power to the RPS's essential support of a vital artform.
