Alma Wilson

2017 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant recipient

BASSOON

Alma Wilson has just completed her first year at the Royal College of Music, where she is a Mr Douglas and Mrs Fiona Flint Scholar. Studying with professors Sarah Burnett and Martin Gatt, she has enjoyed a range of playing opportunities at the college this year: ensemble-wise, highlights include playing in the Opera orchestra, the wind ensemble and with her quintet. She recently enjoyed playing in Orchestra X alongside Luke Tucker, playing Errolyn Wallen’s Mighty River in Hull town hall and at the Royal Festival Hall. She has also had opportunities to play as a soloist in masterclasses run by Marion Reinhard and Todd Gibson-Cornish, and in a duet for an RCM woodwind showcase.

Before her time at RCM Alma was taught at the RCMJD by Shelly Organ, where she also enjoyed playing in a number of chamber ensembles and the symphony orchestra. She also was principal bassoon in London Schools’ Symphony Orchestra and Ealing Youth Orchestra. She had the opportunity to play Mozart’s Bassoon concerto with EYO, and played in a number of the Young Soloists concerts in St Mary’s, Perivale.
