2016 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant recipient
Ben has just reached the end of his first year at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, where he is studying Jazz Bass. He discovered a love for jazz music after studying under saxophonist Pete Stacey. However, he's been a keen musician since he was big enough to hold a guitar. He started playing the upright bass about two years ago, and immediately fell in love with it.
Since joining the jazz course at RWCMD last September, he claims to have had the best year of his life, studying under the host of fantastic musicians at the college. He receives one to one tutoring from Dudley Philips, Yuri Goloubev and Nick Wheldon, all of whom have served as fantastic educators and inspiration. With aspirations to become an established performer, his life goal is to work in education, to help inspire younger generations of musicians, as the older generations have inspired him.
With the grant from the RPS, he will be able to make the next steps towards this goal.
Jennifer Bate, organist: My worldwide schedule includes recitals, concertos, recordings, masterclasses and composition. The RPS offers excellent opportunities to meet fellow professionals socially.
