2016 RPS Instrument Purchase Grant recipient
Ben is a 19 year old first year student from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. As well as being the Barbara Allen scholar for 2015-16 he has retained a scholarship for the 2016-17 year of his undergraduate studies. Ben comes from a small market town in rural Lincolnshire. From the two schools in the town he is the only one who has gone on to a conservatoire in a number of years.
At primary school he was introduced to the bassoon where he fell in love with the instrument. Ben carried on playing through secondary school tenure, obtaining positions as a principle bassoonist in the county groups and touring throughout Europe with them. It was not until July of 2014 playing Mahler 1 at Lincoln Cathedral that he decided he seriously wanted to pursue music. Following this, Ben auditioned and gained places at several music colleges with offers of scholarships or grants. In the pursuit of his best opportunities and education he chose Trinity Laban.
