2017 RPS Instrument Purchase recipient
Kaethe has been playing clarinet for 11 years. She started her musical journey attending Sheffield Music School and taking part in orchestras across Sheffield (including City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra). With these groups, Kaethe has been fortunate enough to play to audiences in Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Spain and France. The 2016 award of Bradfield Festival Young Musician of the Year capped off her school years in Sheffield.
In September 2016, Kaethe started studying at Birmingham Conservatoire under Douglas Mitchell, and she has thrived from the many varied opportunities the environment brings. In her first year, she has performed in projects including the Repertoire Orchestra (Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.2), the fourth years’ Final Projects Orchestra, and The Beggar’s Opera at the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham. Together with senior members and staff of the Conservatoire she has also performed in chamber, jazz and composer’s concerts at venues across Birmingham.
Kaethe has undertaken masterclasses with Michael Harris, Katherine Lacy (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Oliver Janes (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra), Robert Plane and Michael Collins. She is keen to pursue her love of solo performing, having this year been a finalist in the Winifred Micklam Prize at the Conservatoire.
