Must hear! RPS/Classic FM Birthday Commissions

In celebration of Classic FM's 25th Birthday, the RPS have commissioned 7 new works from young composers, all under the age of 25. Their pieces are to be performed all over the UK during 2017.

Jack Pepper was commissioned to write a fanfare for brass sextet which will be premiered on Friday 7 July, 11am at the Barbican as part of ABRSM’s education day “Shine.” The piece will be premiered by students from the Royal College of Music and will also be performed by the RLPO on the 5 October conducted by Vasily Petrenko and recorded for broadcast.

Oliver Muxworthyhas been commissioned to write a five-minute work for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The work will be premiered and recorded for broadcast at the Welsh Proms in Cardiff's St David's Hall on Tuesday 25 July.

Dani Howardhas been selected to write a piece for full orchestra. The premiere of her work will be given by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic at Classic FM's 25th Birthday celebration concert at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on Thursday 7 September.
11 October 2017
Alexia Sloane has been commissioned to write a work for chamber ensemble. The premiere of her work, Elegy for Aylan, will be given by Ensemble 10/10 at St George's Hall Concert Room, Liverpool at 19.30.
