Daniel Fardon appointed Apprentice Composer
17 Dec 2018
We are delighted to announce 2018 RPS Composition Prize winner Daniel Fardon as the 2018/19 Rosie Johnson RPS Wigmore Hall Apprentice Composer.
Across the year, Daniel will have opportunities to observe, take part in and collaborate on projects led by Wigmore Hall Learning. He will also receive tailored development support from the RPS, as well as mentorship from Wigmore Hall's Composer in Residence, Helen Grime. The apprenticeship culminates in the world premiere of his RPS Composition Prize commission which will be written for Wigmore Hall's 2018/19 Fellowship Ensemble, the Bloomsbury Quartet.
Daniel comments, "I am incredibly excited to be working with the Wigmore Hall, Royal Philharmonic Society and Bloomsbury Quartet on the Rosie Johnson Apprentice Composer scheme for 2018/19. The collaborative and supportive nature of this invaluable year-long project is a deeply rewarding and enriching opportunity for an emerging composer, and I am very much looking forward to developing a new string quartet as a culmination of this programme."
In 2018, the RPS Apprentice Composer was renamed as the Rosie Johnson RPS Wigmore Hall Apprentice Composer. This is in honour of Rosie Johnson, former Executive Director of the RPS, who led the charity for 20 years before stepping down earlier this summer.
