The Difference is Engine a vital and captivating interplay between dance, live and electronic music, interactive video and animation. This new commission manipulates time and memory by exploring what occurs in the world’s primordial past, physical present and technological future.

The Difference Engine is a of this collaborative work between Dario Palermo, Ben Duke, Will Duke and Zoë Svendsen. It creates a richly-layered imaginative environment in which the performers - two dancers and a singer - are accompanied by the specially commissioned score. Presented in the intimate surroundings of the Gate Theatre and using interactive technology as a unique storytelling tool, this is a wholly immersive and highly original performance not to be missed.

Palermo’s score will be recorded by the Arditti Quartet and mezzo-soprano Catherine Carter and released on CD in 2012.
