COMMISSIONS: Guildhall School composers explore Berlioz

Fri 01 Nov 2013 18.00

Barbican Hall, Barbican Centre, London

Event Price: Free

Three Guildhall School composers take the 'harmony' of Hector Berlioz as a starting point for a series of new works, commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society as part of its Bicentenary celebrations. Scored for voice and small ensemble including guitar - Berlioz's own instrument - the concert offers a thoroughly contemporary twist on this unique composer's music, described by Fétis in 1837 as "un assemblage bizzare de sons" (an assembly of weird sounds).
