DEBATE: Breaking the Mould (ABO Conference)

Fri 25 Jan 2013 11.30 - 13.00

Doubletree Hotel by Hilton, Leeds

At no other time have orchestras and classical music venues been actively challenging the formal traditions and established formats. From late-night soirées to club-style collaborations, from interactive education projects to digital presentation, the boundaries are being nudged, flipped and pushed back to embrace modern culture and entice the discerning consumer. However, are programmers being bold enough? Is Classical music keeping up with the other art-forms and are current attempts actually what are wanted? This RPS debate will be held as part of the 2013 Association of British Orchestras Conference. The panel will be chaired by Tom Hutchinson, RPS Project Co-ordinator and will include Will Gompertz, BBC's Arts Editor, Netia Jones, director/designer and video artist, Mark Baldwin of Rambert Dance Company and Ariane Koek, Head of International Arts at CERN.
