As part of the RPS Encore
project, Philip Cashian’s String Quartet is set to new choreography performed by dancers from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Cashian’s quartet, described in the New York Times as ‘agile, imaginiate and light-filled’, and performed tonight by the Zelkova Quartet, was last heard live sixteen years ago. It was selected to be part of the Encore
scheme, run by the Royal Philharmonic Society and BBC Radio 3, which gives repeat performances and broadcasts of works by living British composers which otherwise might be lost from view.
