John Casken: World Premiere

Mon 01 Feb 2016 13.00

Wigmore Hall, London

Earlier this year, the Royal Philharmonic Society, in partnership with BBC Radio 3, announced New Generation Commissions from six composers each to be performed by a BBC New Generation Artist. This concert, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, features one of these commissions: the premiere of John Casken's 'Serpents of Wisdom' performed by remarkable young horn player, Alec Frank-Gemmill, accompanied by pianist, Alasdair Beatson. Supporting both young artists and contemporary composers, New Generation Commissions has initiated over 30 new works from composers such as Simon Holt, Judith Bingham and Mark-Anthony Turnage, with the intention that the work should enter the regular repertoire of performers.

PROGRAMME
