The Philharmonia’s innovative Music of Today series offers the chance to hear new music. Anders Hillborg from Sweden has a penchant for the burlesque and the surreal. There's no way to pin his style down: the listener is swept along by a constantly changing sequence of events, teeming with ideas and full of surprising jump-cuts and juxtapositions. The programme includes the much awaited UK premiere of Vaporized Tivoli, which refers loosely to Ray Bradbury's novel about a malicious traveling carnival, and Peacock Tales, which calls on the clarinet soloist to mime and to dance.
