Music of Today: Early and New

Thu 10 Nov 2016 18.00

Royal Festival Hall

Event Price: Free

The Philharmonia’s innovative Music of Today series offers the chance to hear new music. Early & New presents fascinating contemporary reimaginings of early music, ranging from Johannes Schöllhorn's subversive paraphrase of a Gibbons fantasia to Betsy Jolas' luminously scored “aerial view” of the music of Lassus. Harrison Birtwistle's Virelai is an ingenious recomposition of a song by Ciconia, whilst Edmund Finnis carries the music of no less than five composers – from Perotin to Rameau – through a musical hall of mirrors.
