The Philharmonia's innovative Music of Today series offers the chance to hear new music. Prominent ghosts of musical history appear in unexpected ways in 34-year old Serbian composer Marko Nikodijevic's music – mixed in an original manner with DJing, fractal patterns, snatches from Balkan folklore and sounds of otherworldly beauty. His hallucinatory piano concerto Gesualdo Dub refers to the Italian Renaissance master's haunting madrigal, while Music Box, a whimsical ensemble piece of infectious rhythmic energy, is subtitled Self Portrait with Ligeti and Stravinsky (and Messiaen is also present). Evocative music from a major young talent.
