The Philharmonia’s innovative Music of Today series offers the chance to hear new music.
Olga Neuwirth's music is a journey into a phantasmagorial musical world full of strange and beguiling sounds and proceedings. The programme features the UK premiere of Un posto nell'acqua, an offshoot of Neuwirth's opera about Herman Melville, and locus...doublure...solus, an iconoclastic seven-movement commentary on the concerto tradition, which has been widely hailed „as an important addition to the piano repertoire“ (Pierre Boulez). The latter has not been recorded and its only UK performance lies nine years back – time for a revival!
