Inspiration: Winners to date

From 2021, this award celebrates the nation's non-professional groups and the individuals who work with them. A shortlist of exceptional entities is assembled by a panel who themselves work year-round with such groups then, from these, we invite the public to vote for whom they feel should receive this year’s award. The winners to date are:

2024 Derwent Brass
2023 Torbay Symphony Orchestra
2021 Hilary Campbell and Bristol Choral Society

We first launched an award in this name in 2020 to salute musicians who found ways to keep inspiring audiences in the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic. We welcomed the public to nominate artists and initiatives they felt did this, and received an astounding 2,761 nominations. From these, the RPS Board and Council chose six winners, whilst specially commending a number of additional achievements.
