At the RPS, we love to draw music-lovers and music-makers closer together, especially to reveal what occurs in the creative process which can be as rewarding itself as what we witness onstage.
Artists are remarkably good at hiding how classical music is made, with most rehearsals strictly off limits. What magic happens there? What are the first steps? And what does it really take to get music ready for performance?
We enjoy exploring all this in our occasional 'Inside the Music' events. These are free for the public, with priority booking for RPS Members, and offer you a ringside seat as a range of musicians share their craft. RPS Members can also exclusively access films of each occasion online too. To give you a flavour, here's our film of what happened when baritone Roderick Williams OBE invited pianist Joanna MacGregor CBE, who had never collaborated before, to rehearse favourite songs by Schubert and Britten together.
If you enjoy watching this, we warmly invite you to join the RPS: as a Member, you will have exclusive access to a range of other insight films featuring musical figures such as Nicola Benedetti, Nicky Spence, Tasmin Little, John Wilson, Sir John Tomlinson and Kadiatu and Stuart Kanneh-Mason - among others - on the RPS website in our dedicated 'Backstage' Members area.
RPS Members' subscriptions directly drive our charitable work, helping performers and composers to fulfil their calling. We strive for every individual Member to feel a greater sense of connection and fellowship with our mission to celebrate and protect classical music - and with what makes Britain truly 'philharmonic'.
