Kara Woods

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2025 | £500 towards a saxophone

Kara Woods is an undergraduate saxophonist at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, tutored by Naomi Sullivan. At secondary school, Kara performed as part of Wind Band, Salsa Band, Orchestra and as soprano saxophonist in Saxophone Quartet. In 2019, she was awarded the Mary Wakefield Prize as well two prizes in Year 13: ‘Most Improved Musician’ and ‘Outstanding Contribution to Extracurricular Activities' – in recognition of her performing work for charities such as Papyrus, RNLI and several local charities. 

This Summer she reached the finals of the Keldwyth Cumbrian Young Musician Award. Kara has recently appeared in the Bay Fringe Festival, where she was awarded 'Best Emerging Artist' for her saxophone recital which included repertoire across multiple genres.
