Riana is a violist at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with David Takeno (Eugène Ysaÿe International Chair of Violin) on a scholarship. Born in Hong Kong, she moved to the UK in 2021 and graduated from Wells Cathedral School in 2025, receiving the TPI Performers Trophy. Beginning as a violinist, she was frequently playing viola in ensembles and orchestral settings, including the National Youth Orchestra in 2025 and National Youth String Orchestra in 2022. 

In 2024 she committed to the viola, and studied with Alex Thorndike and Simon Smith as well as attending masterclasses including with violists Phillip Dukes and Sào Soulez Larivière. In 2025, she performed in the William and Joy Sparks Recital series, performing Debussy’s String Quartet in G minor, and in 2026 she took part in Maistra’s chamber music course. With friends, she has recently established the Fourier Ensemble, formed as a string quartet.
