Laoise Corrigan

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2024 | £1,000 towards a flute

Flautist Laoise Corrigan is a second-year undergraduate studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Laoise grew up in Belfast and is still very connected with the Northern Irish music scene, performing as part of the Ulster Youth Orchestra in August 2024. Upon receiving a scholarship to study at Guildhall, Laoise has enjoyed exploring the music scene in London.

This year they have formed a flute and harp duo, performing publicly in Guildhall harp recitals. They are also a member of the newly formed Silva Flute Quartet who gave their first public recital in St James Church, Sussex Gardens in June 2024. Laoise is extremely interested in contemporary music and has a strong relationship with the Belfast-based Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble.

Aside from flute playing they are an aspiring composer and was awarded second place in the prestigious UK-wide, MusicFirst composition competition judged by Judith Weir in 2021. They featured on the radio program ‘Classical Connections’ and received a letter from the Lord Lieutenant in recognition of this achievement. Laoise is an advocate for the role of music in society and enjoys volunteering with RiChmusicni, a local organisation that uses music to work with children with severe learning disabilities.
