Lewis Barton

RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2024 | £400 towards a piccolo trumpet

Lewis is a trumpet player from Wigan and started off playing the cornet at age 7, through his local music service. He grew up playing in brass bands, before being accepted into the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, which he has been a member of since 2018, and is the current Principal Cornet.

In 2019, Lewis was awarded an ABRSM scholarship for outstanding musical potential to study at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music on joint-first study trumpet and percussion with Tim Barber. In 2022, Lewis made his concerto debut playing the Arutiunian Trumpet Concerto with the JRNCM Chamber Orchestra, and soon after was also appointed Principal Trumpet of the Halle Youth Orchestra, where he had the opportunity to go on tour to Germany in 2023.

Lewis is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Murray Greig after being awarded an entrance scholarship supported by the Millar Award and the Waverley Fund. Since accepting his place at RNCM, Lewis has had numerous performance opportunities including solo and chamber recitals across the UK and playing with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall.
