


RPS Instrument Purchase Grant 2024 | £750 towards a snare drum
Mariella Bromfield is a percussionist currently in her second year at the Royal College of Music where she is a Douglas and Hilda Simmonds scholar. Mariella first started percussion at the age of 11 with Rob Farrer, before joining Junior Guildhall where she would later become principal percussionist. Mariella studied at Junior Guildhall from 2018-2023, and in 2021 was a finalist in the Lutine Prize. She was the recipient of the Junior Guildhall percussion prize for two consecutive years before leaving to start her studies at the RCM.
Mariella is currently learning orchestral percussion and timpani with David Hockings and Chris Ridley, coupled with learning Latin percussion with Will Fry. At the RCM, Mariella is grateful for the amazing performance opportunities such as playing with the RCM Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Orchestra as well as gaining experience playing in a pit with the RCM Opera Orchestra.
