Poppy Taylor is a second-year undergraduate studying under the direction of Ian Porthouse and Richard Marshall at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Poppy grew up in the North West as an orchestral trumpet player, but discovered her love of brass banding in 2020. She was a member of the National Youth Brass Band in 2023, and studied at the Junior Conservatoire at the Royal Northern College of Music from 2019-2023.

Poppy is currently the principal cornet of the Gresley Colliery Brass Band, and enjoys touring around the UK as a member of Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble. Since starting her studies at the conservatoire, Poppy has enjoyed many performance opportunities with the Brass Band, including winning the UniBrass contest and performing with Eternos Brass, a student-led dectet, in the final of the Bernard Brown Brass Ensemble Prize at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
