Amelia Lewis
Trombone | 2025 Isserlis Scholarship
A note from Amelia
As a child, I spent three years living in Texas. The cultural and musical enrichment that I experienced during this time resulted in an aspiration to experience the music-making of other cultures from an adult perspective. Following my auditions for postgraduate studies, I was fortunate to gain a place at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, and from October 2025, I will be studying there for a Master of Music degree.
After a lesson with Professor Jonas Bylund prior to my auditions, I felt inspired by his teaching style. He brought out my musical voice in a way I’d never experienced before. I am really excited about the prospect of furthering my musical development at the Hochschule, being surrounded by inspiring musicians, and immersing myself in the musical culture of Germany. I hope to gain full clarity on who I am as a musician, and I have full faith I will achieve this in Hannover.
