Jamie Reid
Tenor Trombone | 2024 Julius Isserlis Scholarship
A note from Jamie
I have been given a place to study for a masters at the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, Germany. I will study in the trombone class of Chris Houlding.
It had been a vague idea for some time that I might like to study abroad, specifically in Germany, but it was in the last year that this really became a concrete plan I was committed to. The opportunities in Germany for an orchestral career are so plentiful, and Masters study there could unlock new doors for me.
Essen is situated in a dense cluster of important urban centres in Nordrhein-Westfalen in western Germany and is surrounded by so many great concert halls, opera houses and ensembles nearby. It's a great place to base oneself and I look forward to all the chances to regularly see world-class orchestras in Köln, Düsseldorf and other cities as well as the many international orchestras that come through this culturally rich region.
