A note from Jaren
I am so incredibly grateful to RPS for this scholarship. It has always been an ambition of mine to study with Tabea Zimmermann. When I was 12 years old, I saw her in recital in London, and at the end of the recital, I went up and told her it would be my dream to study with her one day – so it feels pretty surreal for this dream to be coming true eight years later. I'm also so excited to be joining the Kronberg Academy and looking forward to learning a huge amount from the amazing musicians around me there.
The RPS Isserlis Scholarship also gives me a real freedom to attend masterclasses and courses and generally expand my musical horizons, whilst allowing me to travel back and forth to the UK for concerts and opportunities. Through this move abroad I hope I'm able to really define my musical voice. The end goal for me is always to find more and more meaning through music, so I am very appreciative of RPS for facilitating this ever-growing process. I hope I can give back by putting music out in the world that says something powerful and expresses the deepest of human emotions.
Biography
Jaren Ziegler was named a Classic FM Rising Star for 2025, and won the BBC Young Musician Strings Final in 2022 aged 16, becoming the first violist in the competition’s history to do so. He is currently the only British student at the Kronberg Academy, studying with Tabea Zimmermann.
He has been invited to perform as a soloist with the BBC Philharmonic, London Mozart Players, Bristol Symphony Orchestra, Royal Orchestral Society, Opera North Youth Orchestra, Schubert Ensemble, Albion Orchestra, Royal College of Music Junior Department Symphony Orchestra, Purcell School Orchestra, London International Concert Orchestra at the Last Night of the Proms at St Judes and has toured with the Northern Chamber Orchestra.
As a recitalist, he has performed at Ryedale, Cheltenham, Bath, Two Moors, and Lammermuir Festivals, and series including St George’s Bristol, Ripon Concerts, 1901 Arts Club and the Holywell Music Room.
A passionate chamber musician, he has performed at festivals including Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Traume Sonore (Mantova), Polliphonic (Munich) and venues such as Wigmore Hall, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Victoria Hall Singapore and Brahms-Saal Musikverein. Next season, he will appear at Melbourne Recital Centre and UKARIA (Australia) and Boswil Music (Switzerland) at part of a Young Classical Artists Trust Residency.
He plays a Stefano Scarampella viola, kindly loaned to him by the Beare’s International Violin Society.
